Apple Picking and Pie Making Weekend

Apple Picking Weekend

With a beautiful long weekend stretching ahead, I am thinking of taking the kiddos up to Ellijay for some apple picking and cider donut eating! A native of New England, I have fond memories of folliage, apples and homemade donuts and fudge around this time of year. I have yet to try the Southern version of this activity but the kids are now at the perfect age to start the tradition.

We are going to try Hillcrest Orchards. They have a "festival" every weekend in October that includes facepainting, hayrides, cow milking and pig races (this I have to see!). It also has a petting zoo and Nature Trail through the woods & along the creek filled with scenes from nursery rhymes & fairy tales.

Now the challenge will be to actually make a pie with the apples we take home!
